Brief Background - Howaard Webb

Now in my early 70's I have a "BIO". Summarized for purposes here:

I started strongly in music concertizing across the nation in the Apollo Boys Choir out of Dallas, TX in the '40's, studied the violin and played in orchestras. Worked in professional theatre in Houston, went to Yale, the army and Boston University Theatre Department. Studied set design and directing, graduated in 1960 with BFA. Worked in theatre in the Boston area and operated a silk-screened card business in Rockport, MA.

Arrived in Chicago in the later 60's and have done a multitude of things including being the Art Director for a CHA Senior Citizen/Handicap project and managing the Barbarossa Folk Music club.

In 1989 I began serious pursuit of developing my visual arts abilities by associating with the Intergenerational Program in the Continuing Education Division of the School of the Art Institute. I was involved with the program every semester from 1989 until the program ended last year. This was an opportunity to help with the multiage classes and in turn to take a large variety of painting, drawing, ceramic and computer art classes with the net affect of vastly improving my skills.

Music, theatre and a broad variety of experiences influence my work. I have exhibited in "Live from Chicago" an exhibit curated by Rex Sexton in the ATC Gallery, Oak Park Library,  Around the Coyote Winterfest 2004,  ATC Fall Festival '06 & '07, ATC Select '08, smARTshow, spring & fall '08, Oak Park Art Council and The Art House in Oak Park.

In May of 2006 have opened a Studio and Gallery, Studio 204 in the Flat Iron Arts Building, 1579 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, IL 60622.  Open the first Friday of every month, normally Sat. & Sun. 1-5  or by appointment - call 708-275-3344 or email: hwviolin@earthlink.net.
